FAQs

  • All my prices can be found on the “Private Music Tuition” tab above, however for most things I charge £35 for an hour or £17.50 for 30 minutes.

You will be invoiced at the end of each month and then payment can be via bank transfer within 15 days of receiving the invoice.

  • Lessons take place during a slot that works for both of us on a Monday-Thursday or Sunday.

If there is a specific day or time that works best for you, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate this.

  • Lessons are either 30 minutes or 1 hour depending on what you sign up for. I would usually recommend 30 minutes for children under 13 and 1 hour for 13 and over, however we can discuss this after your free trial lesson.

  • The lessons can take place in a range of places depending on what service you sign up for.

Most students are taught in my home in Old St Mellons, Cardiff, whilst some adult drum students are taught at a local music studio where we have access to a drum kit and large studio space with a PA.

In addition to the above, there is also the option to run some lessons virtually using Zoom if this is something you would prefer.

If you have any queries regarding the location of lessons, please don’t hesitate to ask!

  • For drum lessons I teach students of all ages. I have taught as young as 5 (yes they make an impressively loud racket for their age!) and have taught adults and everything in between, so I am happy to work with all ability levels.

For guitar lessons I focus on beginners as well as students in the intermediate skill level.

For private tutoring I have years of experience teaching primary-level, secondary-level, GCSE-level, and A-Level. Whether you need support preparing for a music theory grade exam or some extra support preparing you for your GCSE or A-Level exam, I will be able to cater the sessions to match your needs.

  • I am fortunate enough to have taught thousands of students throughout my career, many of which have had a wide range of SEN/ALN. I have undertaken a lot of training to help with planning for students with additional needs, and I have had a lot of success stories for these students in Music lessons where they may have otherwise been struggling with their core subjects.

In addition to this, my wife has worked as a teaching assistant for students with SEN/ALN, so the two of us are very much in tune with the range of complex needs that exist, and my lessons will always put the student at the forefront of the learning. It is my job to develop a positive relationship with each individual and to plan my lessons accordingly to suit their needs.

  • For guitar lessons, I encourage you to bring your own guitar along if you have one, however I have a spare guitar or bass guitar I can provide for each lesson if needed.

For drum lessons, a pair of your own sticks would be great but I can provide some if needed.

  • As my website states, I have had the privilege of working as a classroom Music teacher for the past decade where I have experienced three very contrasting schools and thousands of students.

In terms of official qualifications, I have the following:

    • Bachelor of Music (BMus)

    • Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Secondary Performing Arts

    • Masters of Arts (MA) in Education

    • Lead Practitioner Accreditation

  • Yes, I am fully DBS checked at an enhanced level which permits me to work with adults and children of all ages.

  • Each lesson is personalised to the individual. The more I get to know my students the better I will be able to plan their own unique curriculum which is designed to stretch and challenge at a pace that is most appropriate to the individual.

Students can bring their own music along that they would like to learn or I can provide a range of different styles that we can look at.

I also am happy to help students develop their ability to read sheet music or prepare for grade exams. However, this is only if this is what you desire.

  • Yes! Group lessons are available for siblings or friends that would like to share a lesson slot together. The cost is then spread equally between them.

Please get in touch for more information.

  • Yes, I can offer virtual lessons via Zoom. This does require the student to have access to their own equipment at home.

  • Have you got a question which isn’t answered above? Please get in touch!
